Hello Morgan, I was wondering if there was a lip of some sort on that corner/shelf perch. I think the pics are great though and you did a really good job on your mews. Also, not a crit, but your bow perch, are you going to tie on some leather strips so your bird can't walk underneath and tie himself up? I also noticed there was no ring on it to attach the leash. Great job on your mews and your enthusiasm.
Edit: Whoops this is what I get for reading the posts backwards. You already know about the rings in the bow perches, so sorry. Congrats on passing inspection.

i said that i'm not going to use them, actually my new perches will have neoprene on them... yes... i splurged a bit there lol!
**EDIT**
Oh and I don't like the way sisal feels, so i'm going to wrap the perches in a layer of nylon rope instead, then wrap them in sisal, and seal the ends with electrical tape. They should really be nice by the time i'm finished.

I built my giant hood today, I still need to add the velcro securing straps and finish spray painting the inside black, but that's it! Pictures to follow (my cell phone camera picture center is down for routine maintenance right now )
**EDIT**
Well here are the pictures, I know it's not spectacular but not bad!

the paint in the chloroplast is a rustoleum product, strong enough to withstand anything. The gh is held together by glue, the tape is just a decorative thing, it's not necessary, it just covers up the seems and the permanent marker I used to mark lines *shrugs*

I can not tell how far the perch is from the bottom. Passagers have longer tail feathers than adults. If they touch the bottom they will wear. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
I passed my inspection. The only things i gotta work on is weighting down the bowperches, and putting the rings on the them, both of which i knew already.
So I have all my paperwork together and it's sealed in an envelope with it's money order, were going to drop it by the post office today and off it goes!
Oct 7th, here I come!
I'm told to figure about a 6 week turnaround for the paperwork to get back from the feds. You won't quite make Oct 7 if that's the case. Will you have the trapping permit also when the license comes back? In Mich we have to send in an application for a trapping permit after we get our license. So there goes another weeks wait.
In CA once we have our license we're allowed to trap, and i double checked the CHC thing, and it shouldn't take to long to get my permit back, and if anything they can fax me a copy of it to use to prove it.
I followed the instructions on the modern apprentice website, "for a large female redtail, place the perch 7 inches from the bottom and 7 inches back"
Hey guys, just to give you an update on how things are coming along:
-I sent off my federal permit fee. -I got my new glove today, and it's awesome! -I got more leather today (about 7 sq ft). -My hood should be coming any day. -My rats will be here about the 26th.
Like I said, I decided to just get new bow perches fabricated, out of 1/2" steel, with 1/8" thick sheet metal plates on the bottom, these ones will be wrapped in a nylon rope and neoprene. Much better, they should way about 25-30 pounds.
If you know anyone with like a coops or a sharpie or something, ask if they would like my old bow perches, if some of the rope was taken off, they should be good perches for the smaller birds.
So that is my update, things are coming along nicely.
Grrr... I went to the place and called several others two places i went today want 85 dollars per hour. The cheapest I found was $37.50 per hour. Where are these places that have been rumored to make bow perches for 17 dollars?! Yeesh! Looks like the place I found is gonna be it (though they are like 1/2 hour away!).

y use electrical tape? id just melt the end...might hold a bit better...
well after pricing around, it's sad to say that mikes (pound for pound) will be cheapest. The prices around here are astronomical! So i'm returning the neoprene and just getting the perches
**EDIT** So I bought the bow perches. It's sad when a specialized store (like falconry) is cheaper than a general welding store.
cost me 277.00 for a portable stainless steel neoprene wrap, and a stainless steel bowperch with spikes with a neoprene wrap.
I decided to keep the neoprene, never know when it will come in handy....
