Well I was hopeing to finish the mew side of my building this weekend but it rained the whole three days, I not complaining cuz we needed it. I did build my food chute and shelf though. All I have left to do is trim it out and the door than I will be ready for inspection.

That is awsome!!!! are you going to put mosquito netting on the windows and does that serve as a mew and weathering area?

I will be adding netting to outside of windows, and it is a combination mews/weathering. One side is without windows and the other end has 2 ea. 4' x 4' windows and a 6' x 6' roof window. The whole area is 10' x 20' x 12' tall.

So I'm in the same boat having just finished my mews and I have a question for you and the board. Will your bird try to use those exposed 2x4's as perches, because I have a similar situation and I am rather concerned that she may.
snafu918, that is why you will see I laid all the 2x4's 4" toward the wall. If you lay them like typical 2" toward the wall gives the bird more area to land and she will try to perch.

Now I'm just pre-apprentice (passed test and have most of the equipment but no home for mews yet).
Why not put like a plastic cutting board on the area where your food chute emptys? Like leave the astroturf sides but have the food fall on to a cutting board instead of directly onto the astrotuf. Just seems like flys and sanitation would be better controlled having a plastic surface that would clean easier then the astroturf. Get a $5.00 small cutting board from Wally-World and slap some velcro on the bottom to hold it in place and then you have a removable, easily cleaned, surface for your raptor food.
