I'm not really sure how drainage will work, I mean my sponsor has his in his garage and he doesn't worry about drainage. technically I don't have to, because what i will be doing is actually taking the flooring out (the astroturf) and hosing it else where. But I will figure something out. The shed is still fully movable, i may just fill in the trench and slide everything onto it in the end, or I still have the option of just sliding it back to the brick wall so the floor drains into the dirt.. I think I will do that, but the OSB has to be put on first before I can move it back any farther.
Eagle - as you can tell my backyard is VERY SMALL, all the bird would see is brick wall, brick wall, house. Also if i face the window in any other direction, the bird will get full sunlight all day (a.k.a. VERY BAD) So this was the best I could do to provide light without providing to much.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Oh yeah i forgot to mention, there are actually lines in the pavement. A really neat feature that I completeley forgot about, the water drains into those lines and straight into the trench.
I can't believe i forgot that I must be getting tired, but believe me, drainage is not a problem.

Placement of your perches will give the bird shade. Due to the confining nature of your yard maybe a skylight should be considered. I think the regs require flooring that will drain, not sure how your sponsors mew passed if the floor is concrete. Without much visual stimuli I predict one unhappy raptor. Are you installing a second door? Are planning to freeloft? You certainly don't want to go to all the trouble to build this thing and then have to make more modifications. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
The weathering will be acting as a double door. The bird will tethered, not freelofted. The floor drains although in an unusual fashion (through the deepened lines). I was considering a skylight, but i've heard terrible things about them being put in. I think i may add one though, if you think it's okay. Normally the bird will be in the weathering which is open on all sides, only going into the mews on bad weather and during nights. I'm also thinking of using some stuff inside the mews to act as stimuli, but I dunno. I'll have to see.
I don't want to get ahead of myself with all the stuff, when it's together, I'll have a better idea of what needs changing.. And obviously my sponsor will see it. If it comes down to it, it's not so hard putting in a skylight after it's built.
It's hard really to explain how everything will work, but you will see when i go into "photo journalism" mode lol. Everything will be made clear in the pictures
I might be way after the fact but if you placed your window elsewhere you could create a rather inexpensive awning to block most of the direct sun. We used to use growers burlap and a few rods. Something like this but even more cheap:
Like I said I might be way after the fact now but then it is all preference. To make it longer lasting you could use actual metal rods and stuff it was just more convenient to use old broom sticks as the rods and burlap.

I can't though, one of the... many... flaws of living in a gated community with a home owner's association. as it is, i'll have to paint and roof the mews with like colors to make it blend in.
Drainage shouldn't be a problem as I have mine in my garage as well. We actually just use 2 layers of carpet padding (easy to find for free) and just strip it out when it get's too dirty. I am however very concerned about the window situation. The bird should definitely have some type of window facing where it can see something more than just the side of your house. Will you have an attached weathering area for it. If so then the bird will at least be able to be put out every day. -Joe

That is not as unusual as you think they use those types of lines for airports for 2 reason when it rains it will be directed towards the sides of the runway which also makes a surface that they will not slip on, they also use those on some highways

The lines aren't all over, only in a few areas. It happened by "accident" really. The lines are there because the patio was laid in a design that creates these lines in a square pattern (almost as if the patio was laid in slabs). The entire patio has a slight grade so water drips off it off it into the dirt
We are going to frame the sky light today, we've got sheeting on all the sides, except 1/2 of one. The door and window are now cut out, it's coming along nicely... pictures will follow later

got the walls up completely, framed the skylight... were taking a break now but were gonna put the roof on in a few minutes. like I promised pictures to follow...
**EDIT**
Well the structure of the mews is finished, all thats left is the decorative touches and stuff... we also need to lay the gravel & astroturf down, put the bars and the door in, and build the perches... we built one wall of the weathering, but we ran out of wood. Monday we start building again, and should be done by the end of the day!
