No, They tighten around the back of the neck. You want it loose under the throat so they can cast etc...

Very few hoods fit perfectly when bought. In addition to what weasel said, you want to make sure the cere isn't being rubbed. You make have to trim around it a little. Anglo and dutch hoods fit better than arab hoods IMHO. Arab hoods are less expensive, though.
WHY WON'T YOU READ OLDER THREADS!? There are 11 pages on hoods about 3 threads below this with pictures and everything! Please think before you start a thread!!

"Please think" is that what you said Sky? Very hard to do when you are brain dead. One single brain cell is not enough. Time sure flies, when you euthanize! Duh whats a raptor? Robots are cool! Yarak ( who will be on his butt now forever)
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away

Fb, All I can say is I have demonstrated great restraint. Garbage in = Garbage out! As long as his posts do not show forethought and some effort on his part to get any of it himself, I will do the best I can. No promises, No Slack! Yarak

He's just a new newbie Yarak, You don't have to eat him for lunch this early

Hey Skyrider, It's a shame that any apprentice or pre apprentice who just read your responce to kestrals question will probably never post a question on here again. Falcon Boy has done a heck of a job building one of the best sites on the internet for people like kestral and I to get information to better ourselves, and your attacks will ruin it all. I know I will think twice before I post a question on here again. There are alot of very intelligent and experienced people who I respect greatly for the things I've learned from them on here. Even though I've never layed eyes on them I've got trust and respect for them just like I have for my sponsor. If my sponsor ever talked to me the way you talk to people on here I would probably give up the sport immediately. I think you may be the one that needs to think before you speak. Hope you don't ruin a good thing here.

Really? Cause i dont' see a problem with making people think twice before they post a thread. The fact is, TONS of people come here, and post a thread right off the bat with out reading ANYTHING. This thread is a PERFECT example. Kestrel asked a question, then figured it out on thier own. The thread should be deleted. There is no need to have it, considering there is a TON of info on this page about hoods.
Plus, its OBVIOUS this person hadn't read any books on falconry.
People on here are great for getting information, but we kind of require that you have SOME kind of a base of knowlege before you ask a question. And we DEFINITELY require you read some of the threads on here that were posted before, before you ask a question.
Lastly, if someone is put off from falconry because they catch a little flack, this isn't the sport for them. Get used to catching flack. Not only from people, but your bird too. If you don't know what you are doing, your bird is going to hurt you, and you will hurt the bird.
Best bet is to read for a few months. THEN ask your question. No one has ever asked a good logical question on here, that was answered with flack. Its the people who come in and ask a question that is covered in like EVERY apprentice book ever written that get all the grief.
So calm down, it comes with the territory, and if it ain't for you, it ain't for you, it certainly ain't for everybody.
I do understand that if a few comments deters someone from getting intrested in falconry then that passion wasnt strong enough to begin with. THAT DOESNT NESSARLY MEAN I ENCOURAGE IT.
People need to learn how to show some restrain. Positive image of falconers and falconry must be shown since our numbers are so few. The chances of a person coming across a falconer in the united states is like winning the lottery.

Falconers are an elite group. They should carry themselves with some sort of dignity. I just feel that everyone should get the respect they deserve no matter how stupid the question is. Instead of blasting kestral out of the water and making him or her reluctant to ever ask another question, maybe someone should have explained that the information could have been found in another thread, respectfully. You can't see the people you are talking to on here, he or she might be 10 years old. I have kids myself and I know if I treated them like an idiot every time they asked me the same question twice, I wouldn't be much of an example to them. I think everyone is way out of line for having the attitude that they are so much more intelligent than anyone else. I am disappointed that someone would get a responce like that on here. And ooby if you don't care how you are remembered then maybe you are a threat to the dignity of a falconer. I guess I was out of line by laying the blame solely on Skyrider when Yarak was actually worse in his responces. You people have to remember that you are role models to younger people everywhere. Myself I'm 33 years old, I know there are some real jerks in this world. I just hate to see a young person get the wrong idea just because someone wanted to act like they are superior.
