Here arae some pics of my mews and weathering. The mews is 20 foot square. It is an old railroad barn that I bout at an auction for $100.00. I can split it down the middle and house 2 birds. The weathering is 16 foot square for the same reason

I have 2 holes drilled in the floor for my bow perch to recieve my bow perch. And yes it is a dog run. I used to bow perch my bird but found my next bird was less likley to bate with it, or it could of been the bird.

I have a pea gravel floor in my mews. This was the topic of much discussin over the past few years on this site. No that my mew are built and i've had birds in them for a while, i'll share these observations: 1) Wow! pea gravel is very easy to clean! Hose it down, rake it smooth and spray the disinfectant. Done! 2) It isn't very expensive and it will last forever if you put it on top of some sort of weed barrier. 3) It provodes good raggle 4) If you tether your bird to the bow perch, it will dull it's talons when it bates off the perch and lands in the gravel (and it will bate off the perch, especially when you first start training), so hone up on your coping skills. I put indoor/outdoor area rug over the gravel.
I paid retail for these lessons, so i pass them on for free ;D
Any place that sells landscaping materials like rocks, granite, etc. They will list them in the phone book i'm sure.

Hey my name is David. Im thinking of making my mew as a 8x8x8out of pine wood and some treated a tin roofwith half of the top uncovered with mesh wire and 2 windows one on each side a door with a little window with mesh wire and a stand up "T" perch and a wall perch with white sand as flooring. does this sound like a good idea?
Don't use mesh wire on the inside. You will see your bird hanging from it by its feet.
Instead make the openings using verticle Bars or rods.
Even the roof that you wish to be open to the sky can have the bars in place of the wire mesh. In fact someone on here posted pics of a roof with a very similar set up.
I used metal rods, some people use wood. Both work fine.
As Ooby said put vertical bars inside the wire and stay away from sand on the floor as well, it can get into the creases in your birds feet and inbetween the jesses and tarsus which can cause irratation.

This post looks like something a master falconer would send just to see what kind of response a bunch of apprentices would give.
David, so far you've got the general deminsions about right, but the rest of your plan needs a bit of work. I need some more information; where do you live and what kind of weather do you have, what kind of bird are you wanting to house, do you intend to use a weathering yard, are you near any open fields or hay stacks, are there many preditors in the area (including dogs and cats), what direction will the mews face, what kind of foundation will it be on, what type of soil do you have, how do you intend to drain off rain water etc, what do you want to use on the inside of the mews i.e. paint, coroplast, siding, how much do you have budgeted for this project, and what did your sponsor have to say when you ran this past him/her?
