i still don't like the idea of state instead of federal permitting. What happens when you want to cross state lines? Who is making sure the one person in charge of falconry doesnt screw us over?

I'm with you.
There is one saving possibility and that is that lack of uniformity is an impediment to interstate commerce and could result in a supreme court case.
Do it before October you Bureaucrats! Other wise I have to wait painfully as the FEDS waste my hunting season away... The State is relitively quick, And I think we can have a deal for getting my State permit on my birthday.

I don't see any big changes ahead due to the lack of the federal babysitting, even before the feds were taken out the picture your state could discard the falconry program at any given time, that is why its important to keep a good relationship with your state as a club and as a individual, please remember that the next time you get crappy with your state falconry coordinator because your permit isn't in your mailbox the day after you sent it in, they are very busy and very over loaded and we do not want to put a bad taste in there mouth just because we are anxious to get our permit in July when we cant trap until September any ways. This change is all the more reason for falconry clubs to meet with falconry officials and keep a good relationship with them they are our life line. Heck even send them a Xmas card this Dec we need them in our corner the anti's are growing stronger every day and hunters numbers are decreasing each year and I would like to be able to take my son out when he is older and trap him a bird. Just my thoughts. Lee
I agree, I dont think there will be many changes except not having to send and wait for your federal permit. The states will still have to abide by the federal regs - each state wont be able to just make up its own unrelated rules.

If you read the entire DEA report as I did. The feds are still in charge and the same rules will apply. The only difference will be that you don't have to get a fed permit. states are going to run the paper work as they do now so its just making things a little easier for us.
