These new regs will have you smiling for the most part....They have made things much better for us falconers such as no fed permits, just state....CB HH for apprentices(still don't agree with this one), 5 birds for masters....etc....read them and you will see how many changes they really made!!!! some of them are fantastic! a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20051800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2005/05-2378.htm

Injured birds can be placed on Prop permit before the two year time period........ Another reg is that you no longer need an education permit to do shows about falconry and conservation.......... rehab birds will be allowed to be put on falconry permits............ It is now up to the state when the trapping season starts and ends as the feds pulled the max 180 day reg......... Hybrids are now required to be flown with a transmitter attached........ If you have a propogation permit, you do not need to transfer your bird from the falconry permit to this prop. permit as long as it is temporary...........Hacking is now an official legal means of training a bird............Golden eagle possesion is now delegated to the state level.......Facilities are no longer a requirement to keep a permit...ie: if a falconer gave up flying and dismantled his chambers, he could still hold a permit to teach apprentices the art.

With the good comes the bad i suppose, i really dont like the age being lowered to 12, i feel it should be jacked up to 16. I also really dont agree with the CB birds for apprentices.
When will these take effect? i didnt understand the legal writing for it

As I am new to this please bare with me.......When does all this take effect? Will it affect anything that I was doing to get my apprentice permit? I saw that they were proposing a 5 year period. Is this just so States can catch up? Or are these being proposed for 5 years down the road?
Also, does this mean that the permit process for apprentices might be sped up? Will this reduce the waiting time to get your permit?

These are still up for review so they are only proposed regs due for change. The states will have five years to modify their laws to meet or exceed these from the date the fed regs go into effect. So I wouldn't expect any changes for at least a few years down the line......

Yup, ...so are you headed out to the Eagle fest with us this weekend? We are headed out early on Saturday as some guy is going to take us to their property with 1600 acres of woods to squirrel hawk.....

Oh, and another thing....Sponsors must have at least 5 years of experience at the general class level before they can take on an apprentice....It will also be legal to take a raptor out of country without the need of permit as long as the bird is being used for falconry and will be retured to it's country of origin afterwards.

Ofcourse I am going........I will check with you later today and get the details.
And the Sponsor thing just makes it harder to become an apprentice but nothing impossible. Luckily if I read correctly this wont really affect me......I hope?

You guys may want to look into what your states falconry clubs members are doing, espically those clubs who have worked with the state on previous projects and are reconized. Here in Iowa some of the members in my club have already starting working with the state in drawing up new state regulations governing several aspects of falconry. The bad thing about it is, I didn't even know they were doing it and I'm in the club. One of the people that is involved I speak to often over the phone and he never said anything about this project. HEADS UP PEOPLE !
I find that dropping the age limit was an interesting move. There are some good and bad parts of it though. It allows for more people to be brought into the sport of falconry , but when you are younger your attention span is shorter and it might bring more neglect from younger falconers .

I disagre with the lowered age of apprentices from 14 to 12, if anything it should be rased. I dont think a 12 year old can even come close to hadeling the responsibility of falonry. No car for atleast 3 years, moving from middle to highschool, financial requiremnts and the physical requirements of the sport. Just not somthing for a 12 year old. Who ever the dumb ass was that even thought this one up needs a beating
I disagre with the use of Harris Hawks by apprentices
Dont like the idea that a mew is not needed before a permit, but is needed to get a bird. Great for those already in the sport, but I feel it can easly be abused by newcomers and maybe even people already in the sport.
I need to think over the removal of a federal permit, less paper work for us but I think it could put to much power and/or burden on the states.
Some what split on the change that will alow masters to have 5 birds
I like the elctronic registraion of trapped birds, makes a lot less paper work for me.
