Phillip Glaisier's book "Falconry and Hawking" has a nice bag template in it. You could make it for FAR cheaper than places like Northwoods sell them, and if I was you I'd make it from canvas, not leather.
When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze
Having stated your preference, I would try making one from the pattern in the afore mentioned Glasier's book. A friend has a spendid leather bag about 25 yrs old that has the patina and look of a much older bag. It also has blood stains and scratches. Canvas or Cordura will last for years, be washable, durable, but will not acquire that patina that leather gets. For practicality sakes, I would recommend sturdy cloth with edges bound with leather. Hardware should be solid brass or stainless steel. The pattern in the book can be adjusted to fit your needs. Hit fabric stores for sturdy cloth. Practice with cheap cloth. Good luck and post pictures when you get the bag you want.
By the way oldguy, I really don't class 49 as "old", I think you're very harsh on yourself

Why is it.. when we already have threads with the exact same topic.. it suddenly gets flooded with posts? Interesting topics.. 2 or 3 posts the first day..

benj - if he's in the US (which he is) he HAS to have all the necessary equipment too pass the inspection to get his bird... still think vests are better
id have to go with leather, if youve got a freshly gutted rabbit in it, you will have some job washing the blood, except by using a washing machine. while leather , all it takes is a whipe. leather is also more barbwire proof lol
to be honest, i use an ex army bag, cost me 5 euro and washable, never pay extra for summit that does the same job. same with baths, what is it with 30 quid falconry baths? when u get a decent pvc round bath from a garden centre for abotu a tenth of the price.
