I think its half the problem besides getting close enough to her.
She was most likely caught on what kind of trap originally? Bow net? Gonna avoid that one then.
I think if you get out to the nest a couple of hours before light and put a pigeon with a vest inside of a box wait till the male leaves and reveal the pigeon to the female you shouldnt have a problem catching her.
Going to require a blind for yourself and hours of patience.
I really CANNOT believe you people don't see the big problem.
Ill give you a scenario that even a 3rd grader can figure out.
2 birds fly off from a falconer. Be it while hunting, from the mews, weathing yard, WHATEVER. One wearing alymeris the other traditionals. Both are in the wild for 3 days and have avoided getting jesses tangled. Both birds, out of boredom or bother, or anger decide to pick at the damn jesses the falconer put on that they dont see around anymore.
NOW, bird number one wearing traditionals can pick and pick and pick and will NEVER EVER get the jesses off. They are on untill they rot off, or the bird dies. Bird number two however is wearing alymeris and is able to snag a button and pull the jesses out.
VIOLA! Bird no longer has jesses. Much less of a chance of being snagged, and a much better chance of survival.
DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW?!?!?!!
Umm, well, nearly right.
The hole point of alymerys is that you can change the jesses. its the SLITS that are dangerous, they get tangled up and get branches in them and the bird will be stuck in a tree by it's feet and die the most horrible death...
Traditional jesses always have a slit, so there is always something that will get caught, Moderns you should ALWAYS change the jesses (for flying slitless jesses), even for just five minuits in your back garden. That is the joy (and point) of the jesses.
When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze
I use modern jesses but all of mine have pin pricks instead of slits. I use a very small caribeener type thing that's attached to the swivel. With my small birds i just use a swivel and a clip. I think that traditional jesses should be allowed ONLY if they have pin pricks, no slits. I dont get where you guys think 2g of leather are gonna hinder a BOP, they catch huge tough game while in our care, dont you think a RT can catch a bloody mouse or vole with a few grams attached, i mean come on. I have never seen a field jess with a pin prick catch on anything, absolutly nothing. They would do just fine!
falco, you're absoloutly right. if you use your leash system then thats great, but most people don't, and the slits can be deadly, i wouldn't be bothered if any bird had jesses on with no slits, it's the equivilent of us wearing a watch.

I wish so badly that on my kestrels and my future sharpie that i could use traditional jesses with pin pricks. My kestrels picked at hte grommets and would eventually tear away so that the grommet was exsposed, that means a new set of anklets, no biggie, just a extra hassle.
