I'm in the pre-apprentice stage in my journey, studying and learning all there is to know about the art/sport. I found this forum and I'm very excited to meet other falconers in the area who are willing to allow me to flush prey/watch the sport. I will be attending next years THA meetup in January. Until then I have plenty of time to study up. I'm 22 with all the time in the world; and falconry fits my personality and will be a great therapeutic exercise.
I will be in possession of North American Falconry and Hunting Hawks by Hal Webster this year among a few other books to read to ensure I am a good student when the time comes.
I am also going to be taking my test. I don't think anyone reads this forum anymore. Looks like this was a popular site a couple of years ago. Good luck in finding someone, everyone I try to contact never gets back to me. Not talking just about this site but falconers in general. Looks like when they become falconers they can't be bothered by apprentices. Hope I can find someone myself so far no luck at all. I would even like to just talk to someone in person they don't even have to sponsor me just to ask a few questions very frustrating. Even went on falconers club sites in my state. Sorry about rambling good luck.

In texas a sponser has to fill out part of the application.. so it's important to find one before. It hasn't been easy searching so far. Good luck on your test

I am having the same experience in southern California. I'm really excited because I have had to wait three years for my life to be flexible enough to take care of a raptor, so I am impatient. That being said, many recommend going to falconry meets in your state as a way of "breaking in" to the community. Most state level organizations have annual events. Unfortunately, there are only a few a year in California (which has a large community). Best of luck
