Goretex braces are just a name, they aren't usually even goretex. Just a stitched nylon. You can buy them from just about any falconry supplier and or EBay.

I'm new to falconry having just passes my state's test (UT). I'm working on my mews, and other required equipment. As much as possible I am trying to make/build things myself (to save money and because I enjoy making things from scratch). In trying my hand at hood making I read about gore tex braces and want to compare price and durability with the traditional leather braces. One thing I've read is that the gore tex braces tend to hold tighter and slip less than leather. Can anyone confirm or dispel this?
Aurelia will sell you a pair of Ultrex braces for $5. It's very similar. Send her an email using the contact form at www.cazadorfalconry.com
Here is what I could find about the differences between Gore-Tex and Ultrex, it's the second or third post on this forum: groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.backcountry/pbfXa4GdwLo
Gore-Tex uses a teflon membrane that is then laminated (glued) to a fabric. The membrane by itself is relatively fragile - so if the membrane delaminates from the fabric, it is easily torn.
Ultrex, on the other hand, uses a microporous coating that is quite durable, and adheres stongly to the fabric. The Ultrex coating is so elastic and resilient that it's even kind of tough to poke through it with a pencil - it's kind of like trying to poke a pencil through a thin rubber band. On the down-side though, Ultrex less breathable than Gore-Tex.
