Hello everyone! I will soon be turning 14 and have been wanting to get my falconers license for over 5 years. I would love to know if anyone here hunts in NJ with their hawks. I literally have nothing yet(sponsor, equipment, etc.) and want to gather as much possible information as I can. Any info on where to get equipment, meets coming up, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks! ;D

Hi, I am a first year apprentice in South Jersey & a member of the NJ Falconry Club. You should check out our website & join the club. Their is some good information on the website about the steps to becoming a falconer. We held our annual winter meet in January, sorry you missed it. I think the next official club event will be the Summer Picnic. That would be a great opportunity to meet local falconers (potential sponsors). In the mean time, you should contact the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife and ask for the information and application for getting a falconry permit.

BTW next week is my spring break. If anyone in or around Trenton or possibly further is taking their birds out during that time, please PM me if it would be alright for me to tag along. My father would be with me because we both would like to see exactly what these things can do! Thanks a million if you can Just leave me out saturday through tuesday. Thanks guys!
FYI, Dave's post above is right on the money. Watch our club website for upcoming events.
Many express interest in becoming falconers and very few follow through. Attending a club event demonstrates more then a passing interest, and I think it's safe to say that the majority of our club members wouldn't consider sponsoring someone who hasn't attended one of our events. Traditionally we hold and Winter Meet & summer Picnic. Consideration is currently being given to adding at least 1 Pre-Apprentice event to our schedule. If and when we do it will be posted on our website.
With respect to finding someone to go out with during your spring break, the hunting season is quickly coming to a close, and many/most of our club members have already put their birds up for the season, and/or are getting ready to release their birds.
