im looking for a little input and maybe a few tips on getting the bird to follow along better. i dont like trying to tidbit him along cause he takes real good high perches and calling him down might stop him from doing so. a little feedback would be much appreciated.
he is a pmrt. hunting at 28oz. has killed 3 so far this year. trapped him on dec 14 at 33.5oz. and as for hunting him at lower weight. 28oz is it. his response is minimal above 28 and real weak under 28.

They can be a bit challenging in that area. Time will certainly help. You may try turning your back and walking away. When doing this at first blow the call show him food. When you hear his bells do not turn around just continue to walk away. Give it just a few seconds then put the tidbit away. If it does not improve doing that, I would do some remedial work. Take him out for a few sessions just focusing on following. Put him up walk away and call him. Repeat until his daily ration is used up. The more you do to help create opportunities for him to catch the quicker he will catch on to your value. Really try and work hard while you are out there. Once he figures out he needs to keep a bit closer he will. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
You might try perching the bird on a fence post, and then you walk to the next post and let him see you lay a tid bit there while you keep walking to the next post. Continue doing that down the fence line until you're satisfied the bird's got the idea that he should follow you to get fed. I usually do this as part of training before our first hunt. Just an idea.
thanks alot for the input. he did pretty well about it today. chased squirrels for about two hours solid then dived into a hedge thicket to catch a nice size bunny.
it was a small patch of woods ate up with squirells so following wasnt too much of an issue. but im gonna work with him some more on it.
