i was watching his video yesterday, and with the lack of bunnies i will be doing some squirrel hawking.
His chaps are what my question is about.
they are removeable, and in the video it appears that he doesnt leave them on all the time.
so stupid question time! are his daily jess' removeable? i never saw him in anything other than thoes ankle tanks, so i wasnt sure what he wore daily, or if he wore anything daily.
i did ask my sponsor about permanent jess' as opposed to removeable and he said to go with what suites better. He also gave me a name of a texas falconer that he knows and told me to contact him with questions, it has been almost 40 years since he flew a RT so he is a little out of touch, his words. I will contact the guy, but with such a vast resource here, a little more help from a few people on here couldnt hurt either.

What do you mean by "permanent" jess' ? By law, you have to fly with aylmeri style anklet/jess', so that if your bird were to escape, it could remove the jesses by itself. I think you are referring to removable anklets... right?

Actually the new Missouri regs will take aylmeri out so you can use slitless traditional as an option for hunting. Having a 1/4 inch reinforced open hole isn't a good thing either. Kurt

Gary would not get mad. I have known him for years and he is willing to talk to anyone about their birds and equipment. During my apprenticeship i would contact anyone and everyone that i could to get their opinion, incorporate that with my own thoughts then present what i wanted to do to my sponsor. Then i would do what my sponsor told me to do! My sponsor didn't know much about squirrel hawking.

ummm, i didnt see the wink or smiley face after that yarak.
i hope he isnt a first class jerk cause he doesnt know squirrel hawking, cause my sponsor doesnt know it either, but he encouraged me to do it tho.
my sponsor still has nightmares about a fallen tree that spanned a river yarak and Ok' wanted him to run across. Every time we go past the river there he shudders for some reason....
if you want to killjoy my sponsor would be happy to talk to you i know hes very well respected in north texas for dirt hawking

thanx for the offer, but i am going to have to decline.
i might call Mr. Brewer, since they are his chaps i am asking about. i guess i am a little gun shy, when i was looking into falconry i couldnt get the time of day from a falconer, so i guess i expect the same thing now. but i will have to voice my approval for the new regs. my sponsor hasnt flown an apprentice bird in 40 years. he flies all sorts of birds, coops, hh, peregrines, but he hasnt flown a RT, RS, or kessie in 40 years. sao am i at a disadvantage? had i been able to fly a different bird now, things might be different..

Do you really think flying RTs has changed much in 40 years? You're at a "disadvantage" by having a veteran falconer as your sponsor? You're just kidding, right?
