In the process of designing my mews/weathering area and am wondering about best way to keep predators from digging their way in. What is best material to use? How deep into the ground should it go? Other thoughts/options? Thanks in advance.
I used metal siding that I bought at a material scrap yard. My mews has wood siding down to about 1' above ground, than stop there because I did not want water damage. Than I used the metal siding for the last foot, plus 1' below ground.

Decide where your mews will be. Cover the ground with strong 2''x2'' galvanized wire mesh. Allow an extra foot of wire on all sides larger than your mews. Build your foundation frame on top of the wire. Bend the extra wire up and staple nail it to the outside of the foundation frame. Add your 4 - 6 inch gravel base inside the mews foundation. This way is easier than digging down through hard dirt, rock, and tree roots.
