A lot of people use the rubber mat stuff.
Personally it's not one i'd build. I have one open wall, i've seen two open walls, but three is a lot IMO if the wind kicks up, but then again we don't know where he lives so maybe heat is a big factor and cold isn't.

Here one open wall would be best, but I don't know if the DNR would let that get by as both... I was thinking and 8x8x8 with one half all pvc and the other half solid. Like, one side is all wood, two side 4ft wood and 4ft pvc, one wall all pvc. Would that work?

A bit off topic. I recently found out NY allows master falconers to inspect facilities of other falconers apprentices? Is this the only state as it is the first I have have heard of it.

for the ny thing i havent heard of that and im working on gettin my license atm i highly doubt it we have so many rules here it would be amazing if they alowed that lol as for the mews i think its kinda a bad set up if u ask me they didnt kno how to build and did the only thing they knew how to do which was the pvc... also the whole 8' tall pvc is overkill if u ask me i would have build a 4' knee wall and had 4 foot lenths of pvc keeps the bird off the floor and kids/animals away from the bird personaly

Why do you say 8ft is overkill? The birds not gonna run around on the floor anyway, it flew to the floor to get water then flew right back up to a perch.

Personally, I did not like it for myself. If you look at my mews you would know why... I tend to go overboard. I believe if you can not make quality work, than hire someone. What I did not like about the mews itself was first the door setup. You need a double door if the hawk is free lofted. Second, that floor looks like it would get slippery when wet. Third, and not as important.... it was ugly. Just my opinion.

My Mews is totally solid with double siding. I have two small windows, I would never leave my bird in a mews that has a whole side open with PVC and spacing that big a weasel could walk through those. Now if heat is a major concern then I guess a whole wall would be the way to go, but for safety I would suggest hardware cloth just like it was a big window.

If you were to put hardware cloth make sure it's spaced so that the bird can't reach it, because if were to just side with hardwire, the bird could just attach it's talons to the cloth and come out with broken feathers and damaged talons.

I don't like the single door. It's a lost bird waiting to happen. I agree that he needs a larger bath pan. I like the floor. I like the PVC, but like the 1/2 wall idea better.
