Guess what we did today! We measured roughly where my mews and weathering area will be...so I must tell you guys all about it!!!
Ok..here I go..this might get long! And this is ALMOST certainly what it will be..but we might modify it in the end a bit.
Mews: The mews will be a 12X8 building, with a slanted roof that makes the hight of the building go from 9 ft. to 8 ft. There will be a 4X8 workroom/double-door area, and a 8X8 chamber. We will most likely used outdoor- treated wood on the whole thing, since people are donating their extra wood to us. We might even run electircity to the workroom, since my uncle is an electrician and he would do it for free, and he said it would be easy, convenient, and not get in the way. In the workroom there will be all the paperwork, equipment, extra equipment, a small refrigerator(maybe!) and a light for those dark, cold wintery mornings and you cant see anything. The workroom will have a concrete floor..since my dad does concrete work and he can easily get this for free. The chamber will have a 6ft long barred window on the south side, and a food chute on the north side. We want to include a rope perch, the bath pan, the bowl to the food chute, etc. in the chamber. the floor will most likely be dirt.
Ok..that was kinda long..
Weathering area: This will be a 20X16 ft area that will be 9ft or 10ft. tall. We want to use PBC pipe and make a frame, and then used strong, durable aviary netting over this and nail or staple this to the PBC pipe frame. you will only be able to enter the weathering area through the workroom, which will also provide a double door for the chamber and the weathering area. The weathering area, of course, will have a bow perch in the middle, and the bird is allowed a 8ft long leash attached to the perch. The half of the weathering area will be shaded/covered, while the other half will be left so the bird can sun!
Ok..I got that out! I got help, the donated supplies(well..mose of them..anyways..) and especially, I got fellow falconers like you who are rootin' me on! I just wanna say thanks!
Good luck, and thanks again!
