Okay so we were at costco the other day and there is this absolutely HUGE prefab shed. It has like 4 windows, it has doors on the front and back, all of which are lockable. Its ventilated, it has a sky light, and floor board.
Just one problem... It's thick durable plastic. Its meant to be outdoors and I don't think it will heat up. I do believe I can modify it with some sort of cooling system (like falco's idea of puting a fan into it.
I personally think it would be perfect, except for the plastic part. Tell me, would it be okay if it was plastic, but I had some way of ventilating, and cooling it off (it's already ventilated). The way this shed was designed it was almost designed for an animal.
I don't know about the plastic but after reading around I can tell you that the skylight will be a problem. Hawks/Falcons will bate or if free-lofted fly straight at the skylight over and over again in an attempt to fly away.
those are rather interesting looking ideas thou i do have some resevations about them. first and formost is ventalation, as for the heat problem that's something that any design has to make provisions for. the other problem I can see is that there are some modificatins that will need to be made ( doubling the entrance to for secured entry, moumting perches, and mounting the bars on the windows) would be simpler to buy a wood prefab shed.
In my mews I'm not going to have a double door entrance... WAIT before you say anyhing....
I think I may utilize the design feature of the door, with a heavy plastic sheet over it (like shose that are in the grochery stores that lead to the freezer stuff [suggested to me through a book]). But in a way I will have a double entrance... If you look to my designed plan, my weathering will be right in fron of the entrance... so i'll be doing this: Unlock weathering, step in, close weathing, walk to mews, unlock first, second, and third lock (not for the bird, for other people, all 3 locks will be impossible to bolt cut, and I'm thinking about making one of them a combination lock maybe), then I'll open the door, if i get the plastic (it'll be clear and I can see the bird, and it can't fly at me and get buy [the plastic is heavy but is no danger to harm, it gives a little bit]), I'll slide the plastic asside and be in the mews.
I really really really doubt a raptor can get by me to the outside world then ... and if she CAN, then by gosh, she deserves to be free lol.

I don't think will need the plastic as you have it designed. You would need the plastic far enough away to let you in and close the door before going thru plastic. If you are going thru the weathering and closing that door before going into the mews than you do not need the plastic. However, what about when the bird is in the weathering. Will you have a double door to the weathering? Before you say the bird will be teathered, what if it comes loose. It would be easy to do a double door to the weathering. Keep thinking it thru. I did a lot of design changes as I am building.

I am building a combo weathering/mews. My bird will be free lofted. Will not be able to enter mews from any where other than thru an adjoining room. Which has a exterior door.
