Thanks REM, and I'm not offended guys... just exspressing an emotion. This is what my backyard looks like now: (the darkest areas of the dirt are 100% weed free!
lookn good! and rem. i 2 have talked to him online often, hes a great guy. and i too am sure he will make a great falconer, i just dont want to see him get delayed by missing an important step!
morganf, don't forget you really should get a sponsor before you actually build the mews. So many Falconers have different opinions on how to build it. He is the one you have to ultimately make happy. Plus he will have a wealth of knowledge as to other areas of the sport. This is the reason we are required to have a sponsor. You really need to seek out a sponsor before you do any thing other than the research you are already doing. Best of luck and keep plugging away.

This is the new area where I will be ultimately building. Stupid Municipal Codes
and no... thats not a pile of weeds... those weeds are actually growing!!
if you can see that dark line at the base of the hill, it's were I've graded the hill too... I really need a bush hogger or something
This is just a side shot of how far it will go back (to the patio edge) I had to cut back the bouganvilias... horrible sharp thorns, got stabbed in the thumb through leather gloves! They are worse than the plants from Jomangi!
It looks better now that i'm cleaninng it up... I doubt if my parents wouldn't let me do falconry in the end, they wouldn't let me do what i'm doing, i had to hack those thorny plants to hell and mow down portions of the hill lol
Here's an update of the trench I'm digging, which will eventually have concrete poured into to extend the patio so the ground will be on level concrete it will have a wooden floor (about 4 inches off the ground for drainage) with padded astroturf in both weathering and mews.
So yeh its FINALLY sunny *GASP* so i'm gonna take advantage in it, and get some work done in the back yard, its still a bit like a lake... but if i wait much longer, the weather might sour and i'll be stuck... i atleast want to remove another foot of dirt in the trench
So yeh, I finished digging out the trench. I ripped up the Birds of Paradise Plant under the balcony. I cleaned the area out, put the tools back in the garage, and then sprayed a complete vegetation killer, when it dries out it will be ready for concrete!
And another thing, i dont know about others, but i would never free loft a bird in a weathering area. They can really screw up their feathers grabbing on to chain link. I would really advise against it. Thats my opinion, dont know anyone else's.
No offense intended, but I never saw this come back up and I really agree with this. I've seen CB birds do o.k. because they were raised in an avairy. But a passage redtail will most certainly mess itself up if free lofted in a weathering area. Just as an example, my weathering area is a 10x10x6 wire enclosure, and the surface is astroturf with either a block or bow perch in the center, depending on the bird. JMHO, but I agree with falco here 100%.
