I'm new to the board so this question may have been beaten to death already but here goes. I live in a very retrictive lake community with some heavy handed rules on what we can build. My maximum shed size can only be 8'x12' with a max height at peak of 8'. Siding and trim along with shingles must match the house. I've priced out the materials and I could convert a prefab shed for about the same price. What I'd like to know is if any of you have tried this and how well it worked out for you. The one I looked at would only need For me to put in a couple of barred windows and be lined. Thanks in advance, Kurt
I should have made my question clearer. The maximum size for any outbuilding other than a garage is 8x12. Thats a restriction of the development I live in.
Oh I think I understand, Its one of those problems you incounter when you live in the city. They regulate what you can build on YOUR PROPERTY. He's talking about he cannot exceed his building permit I think.
Thats my situation except I don't live in a city, just a very restrictive lake development. Very wooded with lots of coopers and redtails. Just got my sponser and have everything in place except the mews and the bird. The building committee only meets once a month and so I'll have to wait until the 2nd week of Aug to start on the mews. Hopefully the conservation agent can do the inspection before trapping starts on Sept 1st.
A friend of mine built a Gazebo style Mew looks good could easily be painted to match the house and he only had about $250 in it when it was done. No windows on the side but had roof weathering areas barred with bamboo.Got some pictures if anyone would like to see what it looks like. Email me and will send them back--Jim bondmj007@aol.com
So what you are saying Aaron, is that you should wait until the end of September to trap a hawk? My trapping season starts Sept 19th. Think that'd work?
P.S. Great name (mine also ;D) and awesome signature!
Down here in Texas, We don't really see as many until late october. If you reserch the audabon counts each year you can see that this is the peak of migration for RT's.

Yep, Just not very many choices until then, I think you'll be fine!
Just an update, Finally got my mews built. After two months of dealing with a building committee, showing what colors, trim, shingles and site diagrams I was able to build my new Cape Cod style gray with white trim mews. Now all thats left is to bar the windows and line the shed. My inspection is set for Thursday. Did anyone else have to go through this kind of hassle? Does anyone have plans for a Cape Cod style weathering area?
Naaa, I went with the Victorian. The wife wanted the wrap around porch for manning the bird.......

Mines built into an old pole barn so its nothing special
My kestrel mew on the other hand [my room] has excellent interior decoration. Raptor posters/calanders on everywall, a large Army flag, and its own private falconry liberary!
