I am giving you all a treat. I am going to make a picture using words to experience what it's like to live an October day in Southeast Missouri! Hope you all enjoy it.
You turn over in bed, smelling the sweet fragerence of freshly cut hay, flowing on the simple breeze through the window cracks, for the window is old. You open your eyes, and look out the window, which shows the trees in a beautiful array of colors. the day is overcast, and a hint of snow is in the air.
You sit up in bed, your room is somewhat dark. You slip out of bed and walk downstairs. You grab a bite to eat for breakfast, and head outside.
Your dog, a black Lab, follows you on your walk. You walk out to the pasture to bring the horses in, since it will snow. You look up, and see three hawks trying to get a last meal in before it gets too cold.
As you head to the pasture, the two horses hear you and head over to you as well. These horses are heavy horses, light brown in color, but the sweetest things. You gently grab both of their halters, one in each hand, and lead them to the barn, which still smells of fresh cut hay. Your dog still follows you and the horses.
You place each of the horses in thier own stalls, feeding them some dry hay from the past year. You give them fresh water to drink, and lean against one of the doors to the stalls. You hear something, and look out the barn window to find a beautiful pair of barn owls returning to their nest in an old building somewhat close to the barn.
You sigh, and walk out to the door of the barn and close it behind you. You then head up to the house again, and realize it is time for lunch.Your dog still following you.
You brew some soup for lunch, and realize it is snowing now. You smile to yourself, for you like snow. You then wash your dishes from lunch and head toward the living room.
You can now see it is very dark outside, but it is mid afternoon. The snow is still coming down. You grab two blankets from the closet, which are warm from the insulation in the closet, and cuddle up in a chair and read a book. Your dog joins you.
You then fall asleep after some time of reading this book.
You wake up, and figure out the time is suppertime. the ground is coated with snow, and it is still falling, jut lightly. You see the three hawks again, as if the snow never affected them. You then eat the rest of the soup from lunch for supper, and again, head out to the barn to check on the horses.
When you are heading to the barn, you notice the two barn owls cuddled up in the freshly cut hay in the loft, and you smile to yourself. You quietly open the barn door, and find that both horses are fine. You then talk sweetly to each one, and give them new water and hay. You then head up to the loft, and then the barn owls fly off, as if they sensed your coming. You get some of the freshly cut hay to bring down in the storage room, and you think to yourself, "I can't wait until the Halloween party tonight!"
