Hi and welcome. You need a nice Texan to answer your quesstions, but i was the first one on the scene. Here is your best source of information: www.texashawking.org/ I'm sure you've seen it. Go to the Texas regs and familiarize yoursel with them. There are a few Tx hawkers here who are better able to help, and I have no doubt that they will. Good luck to you!
Well Sorry I haven't been on a whole lot since I've been back from deployment. Trying to get things in order with all the happenings in the last year.
I figured that I will let everyone know that I'm leaving the Navy and moving back to Texas. Though I won't be in my home town I will be moving next month to North Texas. South of Ft. Worth to a town called Burleson. So if there are any falconers close buy I would like to meet up at some point.
After I get settled hopefully I can resume a more active role as a moderator to this forum.
I used to think i knew some things. But i'm not so sure anymore.

Hi, just a wannabe falconer here. I recently learned that falconry is still around and not just a relic from the past to be observed in hollywood productions. Located in Willis, TX. Between Conroe and Huntsville if the town of Willis does not sound familiar. I am researching the ins, outs, ups downs and many facets of the sport of falconry to decide if it is right for me before I can make an honest committment of my time, money and the resources of others involved. If anyone in my area would not mind a tag along, I would enjoy accompanying an active falconer so I can learn more about falconry. I dont mind meeting at your home, meeting in the field to follow or flush game or even over lunch somewhere. Any information or advice you are willing to bestow would be much appreciated. Thank you!
Well this weekend, all the Texas Falconers will be in Abilene for our annual field meet. There are a couple of falconers on this forum from south Texas, none in the North Side of Houston though. I think the closest one to you on the forum is in Katy. If you are real interested in falconry, it is a good idea to join the state club and than you will have access to contact information for all the falconers in the club. Good luck and talk to ya later.

there is a few in the conroe area and maybe in huntsville also but i don't know them so i can't give info. start off with texas parks and wildlife and the texas hawking association, that will get you some contact info at least. I know some of the falconers pictured and the hawk on the cover of the magazine you mentioned in another thread. we are west houston , there are some closer to you to get you started. good luck!

Thanks for the information. In hindsight, I believe I would have waited to make an introduction here on these forums until after the meet in Abilene for the THA since that is probably where most of the texas falconers are gonna be or atleast focused on. Oh well, thats just my timing i guess. I am gonna get hooked up with the THA, but I believe I will wait until the meet has come and gone. Enjoy yourselves at the meet, those of you attending anyway.
Hey seanribeye, The THA is a great association. Everyone is friendly and willing to help you. Once you join get in touch with Roger Crandall. He is the Apprentice Coordinator and should be able to get you in touch with falconers in your area.

I hear nothing but good things about the THA from everyone so far. They also seem to be my window of opportunity to get my foot in the door to get started and on my way.
I aint trying to reinvent the wheel, just get the small group of people that live from austin down to mexico border together and plan some meets.
this isnt special only to south texas falconers, people all around the world are welcome to join and BS, and your welcome to come to South texas and eat some BBQ!!
