I was wondering what falconry equipment (if any) you'd make from bad leather? As in like leather from an old handbag or something like that.
Anything at all?
When through the woods and forest glades I wander And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze
Possibly a bewit but thats all I would really make that goes on the bird. I guess it depends on how bad the leather is. If you have enough you could make a lure
I used to think i knew some things. But i'm not so sure anymore.
You should be able to answer that yourself. Falconry is about excellence. Excellence in your gear/furniture, raw materials, your bird, the slips you provide, or your committment to your art. Quality leather isn't hard to find. It can be expensive. You will get what you pay for. I would trust a surplus ammo bag for a hawking bag, but not leather from a thirty year old ladies handbag of dubious heritage for jesses.
I made some nice trimmings out of it for my hawking bag, and I made a lure, but i don't think that the lure will last more than one attack by a bird. the trimmings look nice though.
