I am probably going to attempt making a dutch hood soon [going to order blocks tonight or tomarrow probably] but i have a few questions.
1) What does it mean to "burnisH" the hood? EX- "Form the hood on the block and use the wooden dowel to shape the eye panels. Dowel and burnish the entire hood on the block until dry "
2) What kind of dye should i use?

Falcon Boy, Hey,, great to hear that you are going to make some hoods!! "Burnish"- Simply means just before the hood is dry on the block you go over the hood with a plexi-rod, wooden handle and "BUFF" the leather that is drying..FBoy, you have to make sure that the hood is almost dry, too wet or too dry will bruise the hood!! I would recommend the Video from Ron Rollins, it is the best learning tool there is to making hoods, let alone a Dutch Hood. Are you sewing the hood or glueing? Dye, go to your local Tandy store and get OIL DYES, not the others that they have!!! Good Luck! Sakerjack, Ken Hooke Falconry Hoods International

The Ron Rollins video is awesome to learn from. I have made my fair share of them now. I use tandy dye, I prefer this over otheres because it seems to absorb better and not rub off as easily. Just my opinion.
