I have access to a bamboo forest and they make great hawking staffs. I am thinking of cutting some to sell. Do you all think they would sell and what would they be worth? Thanks, ET
They might be worth selling, maybe if you decorated them some how.. make it worth people's time, otherwise they might as well go and find their own. Depending on the labor and supplies i'd like like 5 to 10 dollars USD.

I think it would probably cost more to ship than it would be worth but i dont know for sure. I wouldn't "decorate" it or anything as everyone is different. I'd say probably 5-10$ as well, shipping would probably be more than that itself though.

Ethics make the individual, not the other way around.
I was just going to take them to the THA meet in January so no shipping, I was going to cut them all 6 foot tall and people could shorten or decorate if they wanted. It is pretty hard to find 6 foot straight bamboo staffs. Not everybody has a place to get them.
I didn't mean like designs and stuff, i mean something to make it look more than just a bamboo stick lol. If it looks to plain, people won't bite... you need a gimick as sad as that sounds
Me personally, if it was decorated I would not buy it. I assume you are talking about a brush popping stick. That will get all scarred up and scratched. I have a nice twisted hickory walking stick, but the only decoration is the wood itself and a leather loop on the end to hold it. I would pay $5 - $10 for one since they are so much lighter than a wooden shaft, and they are strong. As far as people just going out and getting there own, I would like some one to show me bamboo in North West Texas. Mesquite, have plenty.

interesting take a dozen some leather thong and like everyone else has said 5 bucks and off you go. No decoration will be needed as you're directly targeting falconers. I think Morgan is confusing what you're doing with the bin of walking sticks at the mall. Sorry morg but when it comers to falconers most of us look at the decorations and think of money that could be spent somewhereelse, or is that just me.
lol I guess your right, but it doesn't hurt to have a gimick, get them to come for the gimick and stay for the sticks... maybe some crazy bamboo stilts or something ;D.

Yeah, shipping would kill a person for one because of the size. Me for instance, I like my beating sticks about 5 feet tall. Now the post office and other carriers charge an arm and a leg for "odd sized" boxes or those over a set size in inches. I recently mailed a large bird feed back east. The feeder was $60 but the shipping because of the size of the box was $38. I about peed my pants!
I have a whole river bed full of bamboo. Some one years ago thought it was a good idea to plant it in the river bed and now the stuff is uncontrolable. Every time there is a good hard rain, it all washes up against the road bridges and they have to close the road because the bamboo acts just like a dam causing the water to cover the road. When there is a fire in the river bed it burns the bamboo back for a few months but it just grows back again and get so thick you can't get to the river.
I have been told it is bamboo. Supposedly the Army Corp of Engineers are going to come in and try to remove it. It clogs up the river after a while. I am not an expert on what type it is, but, I have been down there on horseback and we couldn't get through the stuff. It is extremely tall and grows so close together you can't weave your way through it even on foot. I took a machette down there one time and it was so hard the machette didn't even make a dent in it.
