Sky, Have you ever held any raptor with its food in your bare hand. If that food shifts too much or the bird loses balance its gonna hurt. They are BOP. Cockatiels doe have sharp nails but they generally dont try and puncture with theirs.
I use Traditions Glove, they are by far my favorite gloves. They are fairly priced and made out of goat hide. Come in single, double and triple thickness. Traditions Glove bought the company from Kalem Gloves (One of the first glove makers in U.S) years back. I have had a Kalem Glove last me 5yrs working at a conservancy working with BOP everyday. I have had my Traditions for 2yrs and it's still in good order. contact him and he will send you a brochure with his prices and color pictures of the different gloves and equipment that he offers.

I used to think i knew some things. But i'm not so sure anymore.
I would consider the width of the stance of the bird to the length of the glove. She won't have the unbelievable grip of an eagle, but walking into a breeze with a big hen red tail on your fist can make your hand go a little numb if she is gripping down hard.
I have to agree about an earlier post of the cowhide gloves offered by Mike's Falconry. They look great and price is fair, but if I was going to settle for cowhide, I would buy a good pair of welding gloves for the first year or two and save up for one of Traditions Gloves I paid $57. for a glove that I would match against anyone's. Super quality, low, fair price and fast delivery time.
well i'm saying, which of those would be the better buy... a heavy duty cow hide, or a medium duty elk hide? there is only a 4 dollar difference between the too
Dont mean to change the topic or anything but I want to ask a few things. -First, does everyone think that braintanned dear hide is strong enough to carry a redtail on? I was looking on the internet and though its expensive i SEEMS easy to make. -Second, with this same material be tough enough for jesses, chapps and the like?
