Howdy, I have a rabbit design lure I bought from North Woods. What is the best way to attach meat to it so that it stays firmly attached when the hawk is eating?
I use nylon rope that is about 1/16 inch diameter to attach meat to the lure. The best method I have found is to punch two small grometts on the side of the lure. Thread the rope through it and use one of those cinch clips that you find on drawstring backpacks to hold down the meat..... Also, just a note, the use of a lure that resembles game is a myth. It is much like the dog treats shaped like bacon in that it is more for us than the dogs visual stimulus. My JRT eats cat SH!@t now and then.....I doubt he worries if his treats look like bacon. Same goes for a raptor. They have much better eyesight than us and are hardly fooled into thinking they are going after a real rabbit. They simply learn real quick where they can get food from and if that happens to be on a furry object being swung around...so be it. It could, for all intents and purposes, be an old shoe rather than the simulated rabbit. Sorry, I just don't like the fact that companies are selling these "realistic" lures when they are not needed. Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
I use a piece of scape leather with an old boot lace tyed to it. I tie a piece of meat to it with the laces. Swing it on the end of about 5ft. of cord. Hawk nails it every time.

if you still want to make one, i would create an oval shaped pouch a little longer than your fist, and wide enough so that it fills your hand, fill it with padding or weights or both depending on the stage of training then glue a squirrel pelt to it.

good idea. i was gonna make it a little longer with a segmented rear body. i was gonna sew the pelt onto it, but good thinkin to glue it though, thanks
just finnished a squirrel lure i was workin on. it turned out pretty nice. i used some rabbit fur that i got from tandy leather to covder it and make the tail. inside i sowed a leather pouch with dental floss. i put a grommet at the top and thats where i'm gonna attach the rope. it looks pretty real. my dog must think its real, she attacked it the other day lol
i could try. i'm not a technology person. i dont even have a camera, and i doubt it would scan in scanner lol. but i'll see what i can do with my mom's camera. if i get it into my computer, can i send it to you for u to post it for me?
