Allan,
Its time to expand your imagination. I have hunted both grey and fox squirrel. I fly a 10x intermewed hen rt at 45-48ozs. The vast majority of squirrels were fox, some as large as three pounds. I can fly almost any species available to N.America. I choose the hen rt because of size. Is she as fast a Harris...no. Is she as manuverable...no. Does she much bigger feet...yes. Does she have much stronger feet...yes. Does she hit them harder....yes. Are her feet better at taking a bite...yes. Squirrel haking is just catching on in a big way here. When I started they were much fewer people that did it purposefully. Gary Brewer and I have been close friends for a while now I met him in '90 and he is only 160 miles away. He taught me all I know. I like Harris' but for flying on fox squirrels I think rts are better. Grey squirrels are easier for either a HH or Tiercel RT. If thats all you have then size is less of a factor. As you have pointed your bird has lost some in her feet well so has mine. Not often in close to 400 squirrels I can now not count them on one hand. If they can break out of her feet then they can break out of a HH feet more often I would think. Just to give you a little more info last year I went out only once and failed to kill, that was the first time out that year. She is a machine. She stalks everyone and flys it to some conclusion. Few escape. She demolishes leaf nests and has stuck both feet into tree cavities to extract them. After all I have learned and observed I will stick the hen RT. They are hard to beat. Happy hawking from across the pond, and keep on slaying those evil squirrels.
