That has been my observation. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
I have never seen a talon pierce the tough hide of a fox squirrel yet.
just reading through and saw this. Fox Squirrells are huge they can weigh up to like 3 pounds. I used to live in NCand that is all we had there but i moved up here to WA and we only have pine squirrells, and they are tiny. I wouildnt think a RT would have any trouble busting through one of theses little guys. Id think a talon could go all theway through . Very thin skinned. I have a homeade slingshot i shoot at the ones in my back yard and a .50 cal lead ball will break the skin so i really dont see a RT claw having any problems. Just my 2 cents, probably see something else to respond to anyways. Hehe.

Here in Tx we have the fox and grey the grey ones bail out sooner and are not as tough. Though they are quicker. IMO they are not the match that Fox squirrels are. Yarak

IMO, Everyone who is considering hunting squirrels needs to do some soul searching. Yarak

Minca, As you well know falconry is risky. We can control so much of the risk by recognizing it. A fence chasing rabbits, a roadway, transformers and the like. Bite are someting we can control. I choose to hunt squirrels therefore I accept the risk. For years I rationalized the risk by saying things like" She gets better with age, she goes for the head etc.. IT can happen anytime and you need to be prepared in case your bird gets maimed and is not releaseable. I take EVERY precaution I know to reduce the risk and only four times in four hundred squirrels did she need vet care. It happens just be prepared for it. Yarak

Mine is called Mr squirrel it works. It is a metal disk a little larger than a nickle with a hole in the middle. I have called them out of holes and nests...before they are attacked. Not much luck with the barkers. Yarak

I'll have to say that the Mr Squirrel call that Yarak has is the way to go. I have a combo barker/squeeler that sounds great but doesn't seem to work as well as Yaraks call.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
I bought mine at Bass Pro. I'm not sure where you can get a Mr. Squirrel call?
