I bought 2 pairs of bullet jesses on a lease assembly on eBay recently. 5 days ago I trapped my R-T. Today one of the bullet jesses failed. The metal bullet piece parted from the jesse during a bate. Fortunately there are 2 bullet jesses on the leash assembly, and the other one held. I had a second set and switched them out PDQ. As quickly as I can I will be buying some kangaroo leather and making a pair of traditional jesses with the button on the end. I know they won't fall apart so easily.
Also, the seller mentions a rubber button/sleeve that snugs up against the anklet to snug the bullet jesse on the hawk - it isn't worth 2 cents as it soon slips quickly and is useless.
Here is a link to the seller of the pair that I bought:

ive done lots of business with that person selling those bullets even tho ive never used his i have used some and i dont like them but anyways on that lol if u sent him a email or called him he would make things right with what u paid for i promise.and your on here posting about the failure did u even bother to get a hold of him on them ?
Yes, I did email him. His reply included his telephone number. When I called he was noticeably stunned to hear about the bullet failure and immediately said that he would send out another set. The jesse material (looks like a shoe lace) appears to be held in place in the bullet with an adhesive. The adhesive joint failed.

OK Cliff well this is your fault. bullets are meant for a field leash after the bird is up and flying. not as a fresh off the trapped bird tether. not to say that the product may not have been a defect but it was absolutely incorrectly used.
OK, thanks for the information and warning. I had not read anything about that in all of the books that I had read. Back to basics...
Strange that when I talked with the seller at Davidson's and told him everything that he failed to mention this. From our conversation I would have thought that bullet jesses were appropriate for training passagers. Now, when it comes to bating, Tara bates only about 5-8 times during a training session. I would hope that a bullet jesse would hold up better than this one did.

I have a pair of Jim Caughlin's bullet jesses for a kestrel, never had any trouble with them and the k-bird. My RTHA bullet jesses come from Larry Counce. Even with a fresh-off-the-trap passager they held up amazingly. She doesn't get tangled with them as much as the leather jesses, which don't seem to swivel as well in the grommet and end up winding all around themselves - even with a sampo swivel.

I've never heard that either.

I do not agree with you here. Jesses should be able to hold up no matter if its a new bird in training or already one trained. You never know what may happen even with a trained bird. I honestly feel it was just equipment malfunction, which does happen from time to time. Cliff, I would give the bullet jesses another go, new pair of course but I think you will find they would work to your satisfaction.
I've never used bullets; always traditional. I've always been a little cautious about the spot coming apart where the length of the jess meets the button, but had never heard of such an event occurring until I read your thread.
Sorry to hear about the jess failure, but good luck with the fresh passage!

Cliff, I thought everyone knew not to use these as a tethering type of leash these are only for field use and I believe I did send you a new set of them I was not aware that you were using this for that set up. I always stand behind my products that people buy. If it ever fails just let me know. I will list these differently so that it is a little more explained in detail of how to use certain new products I hope I made everything right for you and took care of everything. sorry for the late reply but I am not on other sites to much
