Okay.....so here's my version of a weather project.
Well here is the first day....I have all my lumber laid out and my bird is inside the shade tent getting some fresh air !
As you can see from this very grainey picture I started out using railroad ties for a foundation but they were so poorly formed and filled with rotten wood that I had to abandon them in favor of pressure treated 6X6's.
The 6X6s were a major pain in the butt to get leveled out. Not because of the lumber but because of the slight uneven down grade of the ground. It declined in two different angles....but once I managed to get them level...I had to have them backfilled with dirt around the foundation and who else better to do that than an aspiring apprentice/son !?!?
Once they were leveled and cross-taped to make sure they were perfectly squared off, the inside of the 6X6s were secured with large angle brackets to lock them into place and prevent shifting....
The verticals are pressure treated 4X4s that are secured with steel brackets that are anchored to the 6X6 with a large lag bolt. The bottom of the vertical 4X4 is counter sunk to accomodate the the head of the lagbolt....
I've been working all day today on getting the overhead horizontals key cut and in place...I will post pics of that work manana !!!
Okay well I THOUGHT I was going to post pics the next day but alas....the lovely Illinois weather has been quite a pain in the 6 trying to get this thing accomplished !
I did however get the frame up....and the horizontal cross members in place and it's MUCH more rigid now. I did happen on quite a find also...I managed to get six huge mosquito nets that I'm going to use on the inside of the weather to help illiminate pests from being able to get to my girl while she's in the weather.
So I got that goin' for me ! lol
Life is hard.....it's alot harder if you're stupid !!
The only thing you can get 2 falconers to agree on is that the 3rd guy is doing it ALL WRONG !!!
