Greetings all!
My wife, located a large supply of insanely cheap cinderblock, so this weekend I moved half of it into our backyard, and we'll pick up the other half later this week. This is the beginning of our dual chamber mews.
Here is the first picture of the mew, in its raw form:

It will be 2 chambers, 16 X 8 total. Only 1/4 of the top will have a permanent roof, the rest will be a trampoline type top to allow for plenty of ventilation. We have some Ideas for cooling in the summer, which includes panels that can be attached to the roof to seal it up a bit, one panel having a small swamp cooler attached. I only need to drop it to 90 degrees or so. It just gets too damn hot down here.

Here is my initial design for the mew (In MS Paint)
It is not to scale/accuracy.
As you can see, there are windows on either end, I have illustrated the area in the middle where the birds can get full shelter. The rest of the mew will be covered with a trampoline material to give shade, but still allow light in.
In the summer time I will put on a wooden pannel which is shaped to cover the open area that will have a Cooler of some sort on it. I will just have bolts protruding up that the panel will fit into, so I can fasten it down. This will allow me to cool the mew in the summer.
This is Arizona, there is no plan to heat the mew.

With cinderblocks your mews will stay plenty cool

Looks like a great plan, and I agree, cinder blocks will keep it cooler. I like the idea of the trampoline material. Do you plan on putting a double door?

Well My wife and I stood there yesterday where the mews is going to be and we made some changes to the plans for the mews. I'll have to draw something up later, but it will have a double door setup, most of the rest is still the same though.

Things are still very up in the air about my mews. I might end up having to move it to another part of the yard, which means I have to move just recently dug and burried sprinkler lines.. UGH! Also, my mews is getting redesigned so that when we move we can easily convert it to a shed to help the sale value of the house. All of this is going to happen quickly, because I have over a ton of brick still to move.
Yea, whatever. You still haven't called. I don't even remember why you were calling anyways. Don't even bother now. As soon as I see an Arizona area code on my caller ID, I'm just going to hand the phone to my 4 year old and tell her to tell you you're a bad, bad man and hang up. ;D

Things are really up in the air. We are definitely doing a mews, the question is.. what is it going to be made of. We are expecting a new addition to the family sometime in april, so my wife may not be doing falconry this year. Boy these little things mix everything up in life! But they are most definitely worth it! I may be building one of Wood.
