HI Guys, Even though my mews has a pretty big exhaust fan on the roof( on a thermostat) it still gets too hot for my liking. Its just a converted 8 x 10 shed with a 4' and a 2' window. Any ideas on making it cooler? I'm not too much of a handyman, so this may seem like a dumb question. Would sophetts on either end make difference?-Tim
What kind of bird is in it and how hot is "too hot for your liking'? Might not be too hot for the birds liking ;D
Pictures would help. If the roof has slope venting in the overhang, (soffit) will hwlp if there is also a vent at the highpoint. Mine has a shed roof. One side is 7 fett high and the high side is 10 feet. I have vents in the soffit at both points to keep airflow just under the roof boards. Then there is a layer of styrofoam, then plywoof for the cieling. Then on the tall wall I have more vents to the outside. This helps the warm air in the mews escape and draw cooler air through the window. It amazes me how cool it stays in the mews compared to outside. It gets full sun all day in the summer, until around 6 pm. The walls are also insulated. Hope you can visualize what I mean.

It'll be a Finnish Goshawk. I don't like over 90 degrees. I may put in the soffets under the edge of the roof. I like that idea. Also a ceiling inside...Thanks,tim
On the mews that I built I had a wood roof with 2x6 stingers on top of the roof and then put metal on top of the stingers. the soffit was open at the bottom and at the top so the airflow through the roof was constant. The whole mew was in direct sun throughout the day but with the aggressively vented soffits the interior was incredibly cool.
dude your mew looks good from the outside. maybe a window A/C unit mounted somewhere to help with circulation and cooling but where you live fans and shade would probably be sufficient even though it gets hot everywhere now a days.
