grats!! are you going to be changing the design later to what was drawn up or are you sticking to that for your mews and doing a seprate weathering area? the one the architect drew up looks amazing lol i wish mine was going to look like that when im done.

Now that its about summer the construction of the permanent mews which will be converted to a conservatory once i leave has begun. The cinderblock walls have been created, its 8.5 by 10.5 and is really tall. the roof has also been put on but no shingles Here's a side view showing one 2*3 window. the other is on the front.
This shows the front where the door it and the weathering yard is where I took the picture from, it is an octagon that is 12 ft. and has 2/8 covered by a roof.
In this picture you can see the weathering yard supprt and more of the side.

Looks like a nice mews and roomy weathering yard. Will you be coating / painting the inside of the mews? I'd imaging the porous cement blocks would be a pain to clean.

'nailing' into the bricks shouldnt be any problem for him i wouldnt nail personaly but tapcon screws work great on concreat and brick and block so that shouldnt be a problem.
One question what are you going to do when you move out from your parents doesnt look like youll be able to bring that mews with you even thought its amazing and you know your going to want to =P

Well what happened when I got into falconry was that my parents said I couldn't trash the house so I told them what I needed in a mews and they designed it. the blocks will be covered with stone and brick to make it look mighy fine My parents will turn it into a conservatory by switching out the screen with glass. The weathering yard is chain link and will be 1/4 covered. I have considered to put an opique roof, but I am planning to use my weathering yard mostly in the day and I want the mews to stay cool. The thing has lights in it and running water along with drainage. Luckily I am not making it cause we have construction already so the people already at our house are making it.

I am preparing to renew my federal permit and am wondering, does this mews need to be inspected cause tecnically it's a remodel and is in the same general location as the last. In the renewal form it says " Report any changes in the information submitted with your original application including, name, address, phone number, or location of facilities ( a change of facilities requires an updated inspection form)" It then says on the back " Location Address( Change requires copy of updated facility inspection)" so since the mews is of the same design just made of different materials do I need another inspection.

I would say because it's a remodel and at the same location they probably wont come look at it anyway so just fill it out as if everything is still the same . I think they will only want to reinspect if it's a change of location or if one is upgrading the mew to have a second or third bird on their permit.

should i contact them on the subjec. Or would I be better off renewing my federal permit then once they finish the mews then call them up about it.

CRBHawking, we relocated Aurelia's mew, and we where told that as long as its the same structure, it does not matter, but if the structure changes, a new inspection of the new mew must be had.

I would say if it is in the same place no, but it depends on how much of a remodel you did that will make the difference, if it is major changes then you will probably need a re-inspect
Before you shingle, have you thought about installing a opaque sky light in the roof for more light?
DON'T Put in a skylight like this. I've read about a lot of birds flying into these over and over again. If you're going to do a skylight the proper way is to cut out the opening and then set it up with bars like a proper window.

Th brick is through and for now we are just waiting for the metal for the weathering to come in to do the weathering and finish the mews windows, then we'll put the flooring in the mews and weathering, the mews is going to be rubber multh and the weathering will be grass which will be in 50 percent sand soil to keep talons sharp, the grass will keep the sand from parting to much and creating piles. Here is the brick
And the inside
i have plenty of perches for both to have two perches and the bath will be moved back and forth. Most likely the weathering will have a block and a bor and the mews will have a single bow and possibly a tire if I feel the desire. I also plan on wedding the bird to the screen perch so I may just end up with a screen in the mews and the weathering being my day time spot.
