I was thinking of maybe building my new mew with a sliding door "ya know the kind that shuts by itself when you let go" anyone have an opinion? or idea on how to build it?

I don't know about safeness, but I think that it would be pretty bad if the bird were to get stuck in the closing door (=/+ = is back half, + is front and / is door put it all together and its not a pretty sight)

HMM,, i got the idea watching a program on animal planet, it was a raptor rehab center with a bald eagle mew that had a sliding wooden door... anything is possible but you would have to be pretty lame to let that happen.

the thing i like about that kinda door is that it you wouldnt have an issue of you opening an inswinging door with a skitish bird that freaks out but i havent had an issue with that for my bird. i would assume that might be an accipiter thing.
The hardware and the door could be mounted on the outside of the wall so there would be no danger of getting caught, i think if you build it with a sturdy door that ran on a rail and a smooth surface on the inside it would be pretty cool.
