Use 4'x4' posts, 10 feet high, bury them about 2 feet deep (to get an 8 ft structure). Then using 2x4s create a stable frame, then place sheets of plywood (1/2 or 3/4 inch thick - I don't know) to create the outside wall, and the inside wall. The walls would be smooth and flush, no frame showing. Then throw on some vinyl siding on the outside.
How does that sound for a very, very basic build plan? My question is this, am I going to need to pour concrete to secure the posts? What would be the easiest way to go about this?
I live in Pennsylvania, so I have to consider wind, rain, snow etc... Let me know. Thanks a lot.
Your concept sounds OK. Frost depth in PA averages about 3 ft. If you can go that deep it would be better. If not than place your posts and pour in a bag of Sacrete dry mix, you don't have to add water, it will wick from the ground and harden. You can do that after framing your 2x4 girts. Check your posts for plumb and square before filling the holes. I recommend a max. spacing of 24" centers with 1/2" CDX plywood. Put some dia. bracing in the corners. You might be able to find some prefab. trusses to drop on top for your roof or frame with rafters and collar ties at plate height.
I can easily place the posts 3 feet deep instead of 2 feet deep. I have the drawing of what my rough draft looks like. I think it's pretty good. I'm going to redraw them more clearly/neat and label stuff, and hopefully post them on here in the morning, then I can hopefully get a list of what I need to rethink and such. Thanks for the help everyone. I need it. Hopefully you arn't all getting sick my my posts! =P
