I have been thinking about mew designs. My design is this:
8x32:
:8x8 - work/storage area :8x12 - indoor area :8x12 - weathering area
I'd like to leave the door from the indoor area to the weathering area open during the day. I was planning to lay chicken wire on the floor (and about 6 inches of woodchips or pea gravel) to protect against burrowing animals. My question is this: Would I leave the weathering area floor as it is (exposed ground) or lay down chicken wire and about 6 inches of wood chips.
I'm guessing I would have to protect the weathering area ground as well, otherwise protecting the indoor floor would be redundant with the door open and weathering area not protected.
This may be a no-brainer, but I figured I might as well ask anyway. Thanks. =)
Put the chicken wire around the outside. Dig a shallow trench and bury it. About a foot deep and let it extend out away about a foot. Or just laying it on the ground and letting the grass grow through it works also as lohg as you don't catch it a mower. The purpose is to prevent anything from digging in. Use just the the pea gravel on the inside. The weather area can be grass as long as the soil drains well.
