Hello Everyone,
I am in the process of constructing a beautiful mews. The question is this: The floor will constructed with 2x4's and covered with a good exterior grade plywood. What should I put on top of the plywood, newspaper, pea gravel? Please advise.....thank you

I have used Pea gravel for my entire time as a falconer. I swear by it. Rinses well, rakes up for removal of feathers and unwanteds. It is also very inexpensive. I have a uniform depth of 4-5 inches. Welcome to the list Victor I think I know you from RR. Yarak
If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
Victor, I have a weathering area that has pea gravel for drainage purpose. I cover the pea gravel with indoor outdoor carpet. It's nice cause then I just pull up the carpet and wash it off outside. I think I paid 60bucks for a 12x8ft piece. If you do the peagravel, then make sure to lay down mesh to keep it from droping through.-Zach

I used to think i knew some things. But i'm not so sure anymore.
The mesh should also be strong enough to keep other critters from burrowing in (can i get a Amen, FB?). Pea gravel here, too! I cover the pea gravel with an astroturf carpet if the bird is going to be tethered to a bow perch for more than just a few days. This became important after the bird was first trapped and being manned. My bird bated off the perch enough that her talons gotdulled in the gravel. After i free lofted her, they sharpened up well. Cleaning pea gravel is a snap. You'll love it!
I used "grace ice and Water shield " over the plywood flooring and up the walls 6 inches. This is used as a roofing product but it keeps ALL the water from getting to the wood. The pea gravel is on top of this. There also are a few 3 inch holes for drainage. With the wire mesh over them.
I was planning on using wood chips... not to be confused with cedar chips or wood shavings. but i don't know, i could use some help on this subject too... i've heard a lot of people say peagravel sharpens the talons, but i've also heard a lot of people say it dulls them
woo this was my 100th post, now i'm a full member!

Has anyone ever used or thought about using "linoleum" ontop of a plywood floor. Any input on whether this would be a good or bad idea. I thought it would be easy to clean and hose off with a drain at the rear of the mews to flush the water out.
