Well the weathering area is set up to let in the morning and evening sun on the one perch rain if the hawk wants--what else do you need? The one I built is the third one of these in our group to pass inspection with flying colors. This picture is of a friends Mew and his Hawk here is just coming out of moult. The only difference in his and mine is I used PVC instead of Bamboo on the weathering area--Jim
Dodge Truck,Blue Dog,Treed Coon dont get much better!
The reason i suggested more windows is because raptors are visually oriented animals. Its nice to give them something to look at other than walls.
The roof is cool with the opening there. But i have heard many expert falconers right about how windows to enable the bird to see things other than the mews walls greatly help birds in all areas of husbandry.
The perch although you maybe cant see it from the picture has a nice view of the surrounding trees and there is enough spaceing on three side between the wall boards to see things outside. This might not be as good in cold climates but for us our weather is fairly mild year round with normally only a week or so of freezing weather a year. With there being 5 sides there are no deep corners and 2 of the sides and the top around one perch boards are sealed with caulking so the Hawk can stay dry and out of the wind.On the door latch I dont know if you can see it but theres a hole drilled and a small wire run through that allows you to open the latch from inside.LOL- I havent drilled mine yet and got locked in working on it when the wind blew it shut fortunately son was close by and let me out--Jim
Nice mews guys, Any plans on weathering areas? add-ons, windows, after thoughts, things you'd do different next time, etc. I really enjoy watching my R/T while I'm washing dishes and chores in house though the window(sure makes chores easier to do), thinking of hooking up one of my secuirty cameras up in mew as well. j007: Want to hear more about Ivan (storm)closing- Locking door on you . LMAO Sorry off topic
