hey, here are the regs for my falconry club. please note that the regs concerning apprentices and c-graders differ in each provincial club, for more information go to www.safalconry.org.za
d-grade- the pre apprentice and apprentice. for this grade you should prove that you are dedicated. you will also write the clubs falconry exam, and score more than 95%. after you have successfully written the exam, you have to build a mew, and make equipment. most mentors do not require that you make all your equipment, but mine had me make everything, from perches to hoods. i only bought my gloves, swivels and bells. when your mentor has inspected your facility you are allowed to trap a passage greater or rock kestrel.
c-grade- to go up to c-grade, your kestrel have to wait on, come to the lure when called, and you should show your weight charts. c-grade falconers are allowed to fly african gos, gabar gos, shikra, lanner falcon and any d-grade birds.
b-grade- to move to b-grade your bird should hunt successfully, it must be in a good condition, and your mentor must be happy with your and your birds performance. b-grade falconers are allowed to fly black spars, red-breasted spars, ovambo spars, little spars, red necked falcons and any of the lower grade birds.
a-grade- to move to a you have to own your own telemetry, and fly lanners successfully over your own pointer. a-graders are allowed to fly the african peregrine, the eagle species, and any exotic hawks.
i am currently c-grade, but i am to be graded hopefully somewhere before october, my mentor thinks i am ready for it. i have been flying for a year, and have flown quite a number of birds.
