Anyone hunt on Indian reservations, or know anyone who has looked into it? The reason I ask is that I live like 2 miles from a huge Indian reservation and I'd love to hunt there but I would obviously need the permission of the tribe that lives on that reservation. I would assume that this would be basically like getting a person to let you hunt on his/her private property, but since the Federal Government is involved when it comes to Indian reservations I figured there might be some red tape. So what was my question, does anyone knew about any federal, or even state (AZ) for that matter, laws that prohibit me from hunting my bird on the reservation with the permission of the tribe that lives there?
You need to contact an official from the res. I don't know which res your close to but I have had experience with CRIT, which is Colorado River Indian Tribes. They sell permits even in little country stores in their area. You can be on private property and still need an Indian permit to hunt or fish. Their rules and seasons are usually more leniant than state regs. You don't even need a state hunting or fishing license, just the Indian permit. I'm sure a reservation cop or business owner would send you in the right direction. These permits are pretty cheap, compared to state license. Just besure to show respect and a sincere wish to comply with their rules (there aren't many).
