A friend of mine call Yesterday and said someone in another state (USA) has an Eurasian Owl for sale, The ad said no premit needed, etc. He wanted to know if he could use it as a falconry bird, as in free fight hunting with it. anyone know for sure if that would be legal? My friend does not want any trouble with the law! I told him to call the state and ask wildlife & fisheries. I also warned him about things I've only read about Owls, size, TEMPERNENT, etc. Wes
Wolf , too-shay, I was making conversation is all, and trying to enlight someone to the dangers of the way some people are. Someone (not me) Told him "He could do what ever he wanted with it", since the bird is not listed on the Feds. Regs. I'm no lawyer and didn't want to argue with him. That's why I told him to call the State Dept. of W. & F . You know how some people are - He wouldn't believe me anyway. Just because the ad said "no permitt required". He does understand the punishment $$$ for having an illegal bird. He said "He would call the Dept.". Happy Hawking
Wolf is correct. He can have the EEO, but cannot use it to hunt with if he doesn't have a falconry license and a current state hunting license. Or at least that is the way it is in my state.
Keep in mind that your EEO will have to go through a quarentine here in the US. You will also have to check out the regualtions for importing a bird of prey. I don't think it is cheap, but, I could be wrong.
Back to the original question as it seems that no one has answered it. The US raptor permits I know of are the Falconry, federal and state permit along with the 3 classes which are just amendments to the main permit, then you have a raptor propagation permit for breeding, rehab permit, and correct me if I'm wrong but I think there is also a separate falconry permit for eagles. There is a fed website somewhere out there that list tons of other permits for other species of birds but I can't remember teh link.

Missy,
You are correct. There is a separate permit for eagles.
