Can it be done? i would like to get a RT for my first bird, would both sexes be ok to do so? It really all depends on my sponser, but I would like to go to central texas and hunt dove, quail and pheasent with a RT.
The answer to your question is yes they can but they will not take doves or quail on a regular basis if they take any at all. Doves might be taken on a ambush attack but it would be super rare by that I mean mayby 1 in your lifetime, as far as quail go if we are talking about fully flighted wild birds then your odds are slim to none if you are talking pen raised birds then yes. Does Texas have wild pheasants? they can be taken but again this is a tough quarry to get a bird going on. Dont you have Jacks or cottontails or even squirrels? those are the quarry you should focus on if you are a apprentice then try the tougher quarry lateras your skills develop.
Yes we do have plenty of bunnies and squirrels. I will start with them first, before i even try to go after avian. yes there are wild pheasent. The only time I would get to hunt for pheasent, dove, and quail is if I find them here, or take a trip to central texas and hunt them. Thanks for the info!!

I have a hen that catches quail and managed one dove this season. We didn't however do quail this season. The dove catch was a product of natural selection (it had to be the dumbest dove I've ever seen.
08 season: 51squirrels 16 rabbits 43miscellaneous
I'm sorry, but you said "it's impossible" when you really meant "I don't know how yet".
