Hey folks.....I have another addiction like falconry and that is Marine Reef Aquariums. (the first step is admitting you have a problem !) Anyway, there is a section on several boards that I am Admin for called the DIY Forum. It contains plans for Do It Yourself projects that help save 'Reefers' lots of money.
For example, there is a company that makes a product called the Tunze Stream. It's essentially a very high power underwater pump for moving water in your reef system. They retail for around $600.00 ! Money is always in short supply in the Marine Reef Hobby so several DIYers figured out a way to take a regular $25 powerhead pump....modify the output propeller with a Remote Controll Speed Boat prop and create a pump that puts out almost the same amount of gallons per hour as the Tunze Stream. The difference is the Tunze MOD, as it's known, costs about $40 bucks to make !!!
So my thinking is that since so much of what we do in Falconry is done on our own, by hand or 'with a little help from my friends'....why not have a Forum that branchers can go to and see HOW to make a B/C, or HOW to build a shelf perch, or HOW cut a pair of jesses, or lessons learned in building a mew !?! Maybe provide some of the 'trade secrets' that the more senior Haggards have learned through trial and error or been shown by their sponsor !!
Now obviously you don't want some glorified nutcase making a B/C for their own twisted purposes so perhaps they have to provide their Federal License # to Falcon Boy or some other secure login method to prevent morons from getting the inside scoop on the How and Why we build our equipment this way or that !
Just a thought !
