I would appreciate as many designs as possible. The point of it all being to understand the enclosure. I have the ability to do some strange things with wood, and metal, but I would rather start with a fair grounding in what works.
I have the book "Falconry Equipment", but it's deficient in many ways.
Something I've been considering is replicating the "trash can" giant hood in wood or copper sheet with a wood frame. This is a cone shaped box. I have a sheet of bending birch that can be persuaded into outrageous cylinders. Epoxy finish would be easy as well, and provide easy cleanup.
I admire the plastic hawk boxes for the ease of maintenance, but they are pretty spendy.........
Looking for do it yourself guidance in terms of size. What do you think of the cone shape idea?
Be careful with that idea. If I am understanding it right it would get a lot hotter much faster inside of it which could cause for some discomfort to the bird. However properly ventilated I can still see things not terribly good about the design unless the cone was huge. Course in my imagination I see a dunce cap with a door on it so could you expand on that more?

In the book "Falconry Equipment" they describe a box made out of an upside down 55 gallon plastic trash can. The idea being that the plastic is easy to disinfect. The base is the lid, removable, easy to clean. You cut it down to size, replace bottom of trash can with plywood. It does not have much provision for ventilation in it's stated design. The shape is supposedly less likely to damage feathers, given it's shape, material composition.
If the shape is right, I can engineer supplemental venting, regardless of material.
