depends how how well u can sew! my uncle works with leather, or did, he made a really nice shot gun shell sash/belt thngy (so scientific lol) and it has to large pockets, one for empties other for live. im planing on asking him to help me make one! my uncle knows everything.. lol
Ok don't think I'm squeemish, cuz I'm not at all, but what about cleaning out your bag? Don't they get a little gory? If you have a leather bag, is it going to get gross? Do you put your kills into baggies then stow them in the bag itself? Or does the gore factor not really come into account? The army bag looked like it could be cleaned easier. Thanks for the nice ideas Solstice
I had a leather bag before I started using the Army bag. It was very gross to clean. The army bag is easier to clean because you can easily rinse it out... but I also attempt to keep the gore down by keeping food in ziplock bags.
I used a leather hawking bag for years, the kind that straps over one shoulder. My wife told me that all my back related problems and aches were from that bag. (she told me she knew this from carrying heavy pocketbooks) How silly I use to tell her! Last year for my birthday she bought me one of them hawking vests. At first I wasn't too happy! I figured she paid too much and it would work like crap. I came to love this vest. It even has washable snap in pockets for your little nasties for your lure (lure pocket). It has plenty of room for everything. For game I just zip lock it up and put it in the game pockets. It holds about four rabbits comfortably. Best yet, my back doesn't hurt any more! The price, around 70 bucks. (westernsporting) I cant make a nice leather one for that (unless I steal someone else's leather) To think I ran around for years with an aching back? Sometimes I question my own intelligence?
I am looking to make a traditional falconry bag myself. The one I wanted was from "Traditions falconry", but he no longer makes them as they are too time consuming. I am about to call him and ask if I could have the pattern so I can make my own.
Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion................ and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."
I'm using an Avery guide bag now that someone broke into my truck again and stole my vest. Its working out better than the vest and only costs around $25.00. Has a large pull-out blood proof bag and space for lures, leashes and anything else along with loops for tie ons. It's well made and should last several seasons provided my truck isn't robbed again. how bout an alarm? my uncle has one on his Scout II and its connected to his pager... silent alarm, they dont know they set it off, the pager beeps so you know it happened, and you can get there pretty fast i guess and catch em in the act!
After the first break in the police caught the guy about a week later after an armed robbery. Didn't pay for the window or phone but satisfaction that he'll be in prison for a long time. He has a long history. Second time I was parked in a remote area and was hunting about two miles down river. I've been parking at the same access for twenty years with no problems. I don't think an alarm would have helped.Kurt
