Longwing the skill used to make bells is called Metallurgy or something like that. basicly it involves 2 half spheres of different sizes, and you then have to weld it properly. but it also involves ways you heat the steel etc.... its a pain in the arse imo... ill just buy some...
Most of the nice bells used in falconry are hand made with dies and stuff. In the long run it would be better to just buy these bells from vendors. The money/time investment would put a bigger dent in your pocket.
I used to think i knew some things. But i'm not so sure anymore.
I think if you're looking to save money, buy a good quality pair of bells. If you're looking to acquire a skill and do something different, try the sites posted before. The time and skill needed would keep most people from trying. Might be cool to fiddle with and be able to say " I made these". Leatherwork is enough for me.
I have a special need. I have a hearing loss and can't hear bells that are too high freguency. I have to order lower sounding bells From Western Sporting. Pakistan bells are almost silent to me. Sucks. Take care of your hearing !
One of the books I have talks about making bells 'looks' easy enough but only 'looks' in reality it takes time and it takes practice. they can be hand hammered or pressed. either way the book sais to use brass. But go with the store bought I don't have time to make a dozen bell in order to get a pair that will work.

making a good bell is as difficult and a really skilled trade like making hoods. Professional bell makers like Velarde have spent years learing from the masters. Ricardo (Velarde) studied under Jack Mavrogordato to learn the art of bell and hood making. His skills are unrivled. I use Ricardos bells and hoods exclusively. Conviently he lives here in Utah! LOL
