Ok so we've got about 4 city parks here LOADED with squirrels and I haven't been able to get anybody to give me a good answer. Is it illegal to hunt in city parks?

I had the same situation.......It's a touchy subject, but what I did finally, was ask the city parks department. They gave me a verbal yes, but reminded me that technicly it is illegal to "hunt" in a city park. He also said that it was specificaly written to ban hunting with a firearm, or bow. I had one squirrel rehabber complain to the city that I was killing them faster than he could place them and the city told him that releasing rehabbed squirrels into the city park was illegal. I suppose it is also down to what kind of park it is, how much pedestrian traffic there is etc....If it is dense woods that few people venture into, I would personally hawk the heck out of it.....Urban Guerilla Hawking!!!! Keep a low profile and if questioned....."I'm simply excersizing my bird sir".....remember, this is MY OPINION and NOT the law.....check your laws first!!!! remember, your falconry permit is worth alot more that a hawking spot!

Thanks for the input weasel. I'm gonna call the parks department today and find out. There is alot of pedestrian traffic on the walking paths but noone really ventures off the paths so I think it would work very well. The main park I'd be targeting is almost 100 acres and most people stick to the two playgrounds, the one softball field, one soccer field and a row of horseshoe pits. Other than that it is a mix of old oak and big fir trees.

That is to bad, most of my hawking is done in city parks. I asked the Parks Manager and he said fine because there is no other squirrel predator and the parks get over run sometimes. I guess it all depends on the kind of guy he is.

If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music he hears, however measured or far away
