Can a Rt out fly a rabbit? This weekend i took my bird hunting. I flew him off the fist and when this cottontail poped out my bird gave chase and it was in an open area with no bushes or anything. It was a loooong chase and the whole time my bird was about a foot away until the rabbit dove into a thick bush and got away. This happend about three times. It was amazing and all but im concerned about the speed of my bird. can they out run a cotton tail off the fist, or do you have to hawk they by perching them on a high perch for speed?

I have just gotten my female on the creance so I don’t have any experience actually hunting a bird yet but... from what I have heard it’s possible for a male to get them off the fist but you increase the chances when they have some height. if you think you would rather hunt off the fist maybe some jump ups straight up on a ladder should build some muscle. my suggestion would be to pole hawk him though. my tiercel has caught a number of cotton tail off the fist. surely it feels good but the bird works less from a high perch. my cotton tail at the chc meet in early november was off the fist. just do alot of work with the bird getting it fit and it can. my bird chases jacks and keeps up, he is just retarded and doesnt hit them in the head.
