I am new to all this and I have a question about making a giant hood. The giant hoods I see seem to be heavy and I was wondering if you can use canvas double layered for the sides, front and back which would cut down a lot on weight. Would this let too much light in or would this be a problem if the birds grab the canvas? Just thinking out loud. I raise homing pigeons and I know you do not need to worry about talons and beaks but on all my boxes the side are canvas and it cuts down tremendously on weight and injuries. No laughing was just wondering.
I've seen coroplast hoods, and I purchased an aluminum one. They are both light weight options. I would think canvas would definitely let more light in and be harder to clean and sanitize.
No canvas wouldn’t work. The mutes would be a nightmare, sterilization would be a nightmare. As mentioned above, coroplast or aluminum are your light options.
Weight of GH isn’t a huge problem. You aren’t carrying the hawk around in it more than just having it in your car.
